The short version
ReelTalk is a social movie-discovery service. We collect the information needed to run accounts, public profiles, reviews and collections, social features, Movie Match, recommendations, showtimes, notifications, moderation, and optional Pro access.
We do not sell personal information, rent it to data brokers, or use third-party advertising SDKs. Some information is public because publishing and sharing are core parts of ReelTalk. We use service providers to host the app, retrieve movie information, generate AI recommendations, deliver notifications, and manage purchases.
Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the ReelTalk mobile apps, reeltalk.site, and the related services we operate (together, the “Service”). “ReelTalk,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the team that operates the Service.
Information you provide
•
Account information: email address, authentication provider, account identifiers, and acceptance of our Terms. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a relay email address instead of your personal address.
•
Profile information: username, display information, biography, profile icon or photo, favorite movies, and profile presentation choices.
•
Movie activity: ratings, reviews, spoiler labels, diary entries, watched and liked movies, watchlists, lists, rankings, Movie Match swipes and history, and related preferences.
•
Community activity: comments, likes, votes, follows, blocks, reports, and other interactions with people or posts.
•
AI conversations: prompts, follow-up messages, and recommendation history you submit to ReelTalk’s recommendation feature.
•
Support and safety information: details you include in reports, appeals, support requests, or communications with us.
Information collected when you use ReelTalk
•
Device and network information needed to operate and protect the Service, such as IP address, request time, app and operating-system information, error details, and security or rate-limit signals. Hosting and platform providers may create their own operational logs.
•
Approximate or precise location only after you grant foreground location permission and use a nearby-showtimes feature. We reverse-geocode coordinates into an area label and send the label—and, for nearby results, rounded coordinates—to our showtimes service. Nearby-showtime cache keys may contain coordinates rounded to three decimal places. We do not request background location.
•
Notification information, including your notification preferences, in-app notification history, and an Apple Push Notification service token if you enable push notifications on a supported iOS device.
•
Purchase and entitlement information, such as product, subscription status, expiration, storefront, and transaction or customer identifiers. Apple, Google, or Stripe processes the payment method; ReelTalk does not receive full payment-card details.
•
Local app data, such as recent searches, onboarding state, cached images and movie data, and a securely stored sign-in session. Clearing the app’s cache does not delete information stored in your ReelTalk account.
Camera, photos, and sharing
ReelTalk uses the device photo picker when you choose a profile photo and requests add-only photo access when you save a share card. A chosen profile photo is uploaded for moderation and, if approved, becomes publicly accessible as part of your profile. Share cards can also be passed to an app you choose through the device sharing interface. ReelTalk does not request broad access to, scan, or upload the rest of your photo library.
How we use information
•
Create and secure your account, keep you signed in, and provide the features you request.
•
Display profiles, reviews, comments, lists, rankings, likes, follows, and other community activity according to the feature’s visibility controls.
•
Personalize discovery, maintain your library and history, run Movie Match sessions, and generate movie recommendations.
•
Find nearby theaters and showtimes after you grant location permission.
•
Deliver in-app or push notifications based on your settings.
•
Manage Pro access, restore purchases, prevent entitlement abuse, and reconcile storefront events.
•
Filter prohibited language, review profile photos and reports, enforce our Community Guidelines, prevent fraud or abuse, and maintain moderation records.
•
Debug, secure, maintain, and improve the reliability and performance of the Service.
•
Comply with law, respond to valid legal process, and protect users, ReelTalk, and others.
What is public
Your username, approved profile photo or icon, biography, selected favorite movies, public follower/following relationships, public reviews and comments, and public lists or rankings can be seen and shared by other people. Likes and votes may also be reflected in public counts or activity. Private collections are limited by their selected visibility, but people you share content with can still copy or reshare it.
Do not post personal information you do not want others to see. Blocking limits interaction and visibility within ReelTalk; it cannot erase copies someone already made outside the Service.
AI recommendations
When you use AI recommendations, ReelTalk stores the conversation and sends the prompt and relevant conversation context to Google’s Gemini service to generate a response. We may also use TMDB data to validate movie results. Do not put sensitive personal information in an AI prompt. AI output can be incomplete or wrong, and should be treated as a discovery aid rather than a statement of fact.
When we disclose information
We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service, at your direction, or for legal and safety reasons. The principal categories are:
•
Infrastructure and account services: Supabase provides authentication, database, storage, and server-function infrastructure.
•
Movie and discovery services: TMDB provides movie metadata and artwork. Google Gemini supports AI recommendations. Showtime and related lookups may use Fandango, Brave Search, Google links, Spotify, IMDb-related sources, YouTube, or other destination services shown in the app.
•
Purchases: Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe through RevenueCat Web Billing processes purchases; RevenueCat manages subscription status; Superwall may present native purchase offers.
•
Notifications: Apple Push Notification service delivers supported push notifications. Notification content may include usernames, movie titles, or previews of community activity.
•
Other people and services you choose: information is disclosed when you publish it, join a Movie Match session, open a third-party link, or share through another app.
•
Safety and legal disclosures: we may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, investigate abuse or security incidents, enforce our Terms, or protect rights and safety.
•
Business changes: information may transfer as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to this policy and applicable law.
No sale or targeted advertising
ReelTalk does not sell or rent personal information. We do not currently use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or run third-party advertising SDKs. If that changes, we will update this policy and provide any choices required by law before using information that way.
Retention and account deletion
We keep account and feature data while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Cached movie and showtime data expires or is replaced as it becomes stale. Local cache data remains on your device until the app, operating system, or you clear it.
You can delete your account in Settings → Delete Account. If you cannot access the app, request deletion at reeltalk.site/delete-account. The deletion process removes your authentication account and profile and deletes data tied to them through our database deletion rules. Reviews and comments may remain only after their author link is removed, so the contribution appears anonymous and is no longer connected to your account. We may retain limited security, fraud-prevention, transaction, moderation, backup, or legal records when reasonably necessary or legally required, and then delete or de-identify them when they are no longer needed.
Deleting ReelTalk does not cancel an App Store, Google Play, or web subscription. Manage and cancel subscriptions through the storefront where you purchased them.
Your choices and rights
•
Review and update profile information and collection visibility in the app.
•
Change notification preferences in ReelTalk and location, camera, photo, and notification permissions in system settings.
•
Delete your posts where the feature offers a delete control, block other users, and report content or accounts.
•
Request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or an appeal of a privacy decision where applicable law provides that right.
•
Delete your entire ReelTalk account from Settings. For help with a privacy request, email support@reeltalk.site from the address associated with your account. We may need to verify the request before acting on it.
Security
We use access controls, encrypted network connections, row-level database rules, restricted server credentials, and moderation and audit tools designed to protect information. No service can guarantee perfect security. Use a unique password, protect access to your device and email account, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
Children
ReelTalk is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. You must be at least 13 to create an account. If the law where you live requires a higher minimum age to consent to online services, you may use ReelTalk only with the valid consent of a parent or legal guardian. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child in violation of applicable law, we will take steps to delete it. A parent or guardian can contact support@reeltalk.site.
International use
ReelTalk and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices or legal obligations materially change. We will change the effective date and, when appropriate, provide an in-app notice or request renewed consent. Prior versions may be requested by email.
Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact the ReelTalk team at support@reeltalk.site. Include enough detail for us to understand the request, but do not send passwords, full payment details, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
